EV Chargers and Installation for your new BYD
Why Install and AC Charger
When it comes to EV charging at home, a dedicated AC charger offers a much faster experience – approximately 3.5 times quicker than a standard power point. This means you’ll get about 3.5 times more range delivered per hour, making EV chargers for home a smart upgrade for everyday convenience.
The extra speed delivers several key benefits, especially the ability to maximise your charge during off-peak time-of-use electricity periods for significant cost savings. For example, if you have a 6-hour window to charge your EV at discounted rates, a regular power point will typically deliver around 12 kWh (less than 100 km of range). In contrast, a 7.4 kW single-phase AC charger can deliver approximately 42 kWh – that’s roughly 230–260 km of range.
While dedicated EV chargers for home will suit the majority of drivers, a standard power point can still be a practical solution in some situations. Our SmartPoint is particularly well-suited to strata apartment sites, where power limitations or cost-reimbursement arrangements often apply.
We’re delighted to provide smart, tailored options that perfectly complement your new BYD.

What determines the speed of a charger
When choosing EV chargers for home, several key factors determine your maximum charging speed for EV charging at home.
The Vehicle
Most electric vehicles can accept AC charging from 7.4 kW to 11 kW. In rare cases, usually with certain German brands and models, charging on AC up to 22 kW is possible.
Your Home’s Electrical Supply
As a general rule of thumb, single-phase homes are limited to a maximum of 7.4 kW, while three-phase homes can support much faster charging, typically from 11 kW up to 22 kW.
If you have a 11 or 22kW capable vehicle, and you charger is single phase at home, the charger will be the limiting factor at 7.4kW. If you have a three phase home with a 22kW charger and your vehicle is limited to 11kW, the max charge speed will be 11kW regardingless of the charger speed.
Solar & Load Management Features
As a general rule of thumb, single-phase homes are limited to a maximum of 7.4 kW, while three-phase homes can support much faster EV charging at home, typically from 11 kW up to 22 kW.
The actual charging speed is always determined by the weakest link.
For example, if you have an 11 kW or 22 kW capable vehicle but your home is single-phase, your EV charger for home will be the limiting factor at 7.4 kW.
Likewise, if you have a three-phase home with a 22 kW charger but your vehicle is only capable of 11 kW, the maximum charge speed will be 11 kW, regardless of the charger’s capability.
